Wine Tenuta Prima Pietra, “Dainero”, Toscana IGT, 2019

“Dainero” – dry red wine made from Merlot grapes with a small proportion of Sangiovese, which is grown at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level, in a vineyard where the vines are constantly blown by the breeze from the Mediterranean Sea. The vines are planted at a density of 9600 vines per hectare. The soils are a mixture of gravel and iron-rich clay, which gives the wine its concentration. Merlot is harvested in the first 10 days of September, and Sangiovese at the end of September. The grapes are harvested by hand and delivered to Montalcino for vinification. The must is fermented in stainless steel tanks at 28C for 15 days. The wine is then aged in French barriques, 30% of which are new, for six months before bottling. After bottling, the wine spends another six months in the bottle before being released for sale.

In 2003, Ferragamo bought the 11-hectare Tenuta Prima Pietra estate near Riparbella, north of Bolgheri in the Maremma. The estate became the property of Castiglion del Bosco. Local oenologist Cecilia Leoneschi, who has been working at the winery since 2003, oversees the vineyards and the winery.
