Tenuta I Colli, “Ser Gardo”, Chianti Classico DOCG – exquisite red dry wine, named after Nicolo Sergardi, governor of the city of Siena in 1530, whose name was none other than “Ser Gardo”, which means “Sir Guardian of the city.” The wine is made from Sangiovese grapes, which is grown in the Chianti Classico area at an altitude of about 350 meters above sea level, on calcareous and marl soils. The age of the vines ranges from 15 to 20 years. Harvested at the moment of optimal ripeness, the grapes are destemmed and macerated in stainless steel vats for 15 days. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 26-28 C. Shortly after the completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine is poured into oak barrels for subsequent aging for at least 12 months. After bottling, the wine matures for some time in the cellars of the winery. The potential of the wine is at least 10 years. Before serving, decanting for an hour is recommended.
2019 in Tuscany can be considered successful and fruitful. The spring was rainy and with cooler than usual temperatures. The beginning of flowering was observed with a slight delay in June, with the advent of heat. Summer was characterized by temperatures within the normal range, with a good difference between night and day temperatures.
The Tenuta I Colli estate, owned by Bindi Sergardi, is located in the northern part of the province of Siena, in the villages of Monteriggioni and Vagliaglia. This estate represents the history and soul of the 23 generations of the Bindi Sergardi family who built it in the late 1400s. This is a very beautiful place with a rich history: in the estate of Tenuta I Colli, Bishop Achille Sergardi hosted the embassy of Emperor Charles V to negotiate a peace settlement for the city of Siena. The vineyards of this estate are famous for their special soils of sedimentary rocks, consisting mainly of calcium carbonate. Precious yellow marble is also mined on these lands. Authenticity and originality of the wines obtained in the estate emphasizes the diversity of local terroirs.
