  • “Tassinaia” – this red “Supertuscan” wine created from a blend of grape varieties Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot represented in almost equal proportions. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level. For soils are characterized by high content of stones, and the name of the wine means “stony ground” and two green bands on the label symbolize Terrichcho meadows. The exposition of different areas favorable for red varieties Climate: warm enough, with winds from the sea. The harvest begins in late September. Each period of varieties harvested in its maximum maturation. After careful sorting the berries are separated from the ridges. The fermentation process takes place at a temperature of 30 C in stainless steel. Each of the three kinds of fermented separately. The wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels and then another for almost six months in bottles. Vintage 2009 may be kept at least until 2020.

    The first mention of the manor Terriccio belongs to the Middle Ages. The estate is situated on a very unusual place, where long ago settled Etruscan mines, mining copper and iron here. Many centuries ago, this area was famous for a large number of wolves living in the vicinity. Some of wolf dens, called “lupo”, located directly on the estate. Kill the wolf was only possible in the first few minutes after he came out of the den, drove him into a trap. This is the place near wolf dens and was called “lupikaya.”

    In 1921, Castello del Terriccio became the property of the family Rossi, while here grow different crops, including olives and grapes. The current owner – Dr. Jean Anibal Rossi di Medelana – decided to concentrate solely on wine. Carlo Ferrini, consultant Castello del Terriccio, based on their talent and rich traditions of the winery, has created two delicious wines, famous throughout the world – “Lupicaia” and “Tassinaia”, they are the hallmark of Castello del Terriccio.
