Wine Pieropan, “La Rocca”, Soave Classico DOC, 2012, 1.5 L

Wine “La Rocca” is made from berries collected from the vineyard La Rocca. He got his name from the nearby ancient fortress (“La Rocca”). Soil vineyard unique to Soave: a mixture of limestone to basalt. Therefore Nin Peropan rightly believes that for fine wine from this terroir, only one grape variety: Garganega. With its warm and sunny weather, usual for this terroir, grown on it is always ripe berries and rich, deep golden color. After bunches whole delicate pressing followed by a brief period on the grape skins maceration followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks, and a 500-liter oak casks. Nin Peropan believes that Garganega grapes too gentle fermentation in small wooden barrels. Further, 60% still wine in large mature 500-liter drums, while 40% – in large 2000-liter tanks during the year. Before selling the wine is further aged 4 months in bottle.

The company was founded Pieropan Leonildo Peropanom in 1890. Then the economy ruled by his sons Gustavo and Faustino. Now the company is run by the founder’s namesake and grandson – Leonildo. Leonildo Peropan first wine produced with the inscription “Soave” on the label. Wine “La Rocca” and “Calvarino” are examples of Soave wines. “Calvarino” is created without contact with the wood, and “La Rocca” is aged in oak barrels. The farm also produces Peropan two kinds of sweet wines: the traditional “Passito della Rocca” and Recioto “Le Colombare” of slightly dried grapes. Peropan winery is equipped with the latest advances in winemaking. The winery is called Pullichi and is located in a historic mansion in 1460, renovated family Peropan. In 2000 the company bought the site in Peropan Valpolicella region and estate Villa Cipolla Pellegrini. Brothers Dario and Andrea Peropan built a new cellar for aging wine in barrels.

Now the company Peropan vineyards occupy 30 hectares. Most of them are located on the southern slopes of rocky hills of Soave Classico. The vineyards are mainly engaged varieties Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave. Sort Garganega gives wines structure and acidity, Trebbiano di Soave provides a rich taste and fragrant bouquet. In Valpolicella region near the mountain Monte Garzon planted new vineyards. The soil is rich in limestone and clay. The grapes are harvested in late September by hand in small baskets in several stages to obtain the required degree of maturity of the fruit, as Trebbiano di Soave variety matures earlier than Garganega. The winery produces red wine “Ruberpan”, which is created from local grapes and aged in oak barrels for at least two years.
