Wine Mountain River Wines, “Zarafa” Sauvignon Blanc Rose, Western Cape WO, 2021

The brand “Zarafa” , under which the original South African wines are produced, is devoted to a rather exciting and relevant topic – the preservation of the population of elegant and majestic giraffes. To date, their number does not exceed 150,000 individuals in the states of East Africa, where they only survived. This situation has arisen due to the fact that the white settlers found hunting these beautiful animals a great entertainment, which endangered the species. Wines “Zarafa” are intended to draw public attention to this problem. The vibrant wine labels feature a silhouette of a giraffe.

“Zarafa” Pinotage – elegant red dry wine made from the autochthonous South African grape variety Pinotage, which is grown in vineyards in the Western Cape. The climate here is predominantly Mediterranean. The predominant soil types in the Western Cape are granite, shale and sandstone. The age of the vines reaches 10-11 years. The yield does not exceed 12 t / ha. The grapes harvested at the time of optimum ripeness are macerated for 4 days on the skins, and then fermented at a controlled temperature in steel vats with regular pumping of the must. Before bottling, the wine spends 3 days on the lees.
