Vintage Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese to create great Grattamacco, Bolgheri Rosso Superiore grown on rich sandstone, marl, limestone and clay soils. The vineyard is situated at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level and gives a yield of 7 tons per hectare. The average age of the vines – 20 years, grapes are grown according to organic farming methods. The process of winemaking involves fermentation in truncated cone-shaped oak vats. Malolactic fermentation is done in barrels, exposure lasts for at least 18 months, with involve both new and re-used barrels. After bottling the wine is aged in bottle another 12 months.
Grattamacco estate was founded in 1977. The estate is located on a hilltop overlooking the sea, between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci, at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level. Due to climatic conditions – dry climate and warm summers – this area has historically been devoted to the production of great wines. Manor Grattamakko takes about 35 hectares, of which 14 hectares are given under the vineyards and 3 hectares – under the olive groves. The remaining area is covered by forests, and the border between the vast tracts of forest, covering about 1,600 hectares. The average age of the vineyards of the estate is about 25 years. All of them are certified by ICEA as organic.
