Wine Canalicchio di Sopra, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, 2016

Canalicchio di Sopra, Brunello di Montalcino – wine that represents the essence of the concept of terroir from Canalicchio di Sopra. It is an expression of the elegance, depth and freshness of Sangiovese, able to combine the balsamic and menthol shades typical of the northern part of Montalcino with the richness of the local land. Harvest for making wine comes from vineyards located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The blend is the result of mixing Sangiovese from two different soils: the Cru Canalicchio soil with a strong clay component, very rich in elements such as magnesium, iron and manganese, and the marly soil with a very high mineral content in Cru Montosoli.

The 2016 vintage, which showed excellent balance and perfect polyphenolic maturation due to the strong fluctuations between day and night temperatures, was harvested from September 27 to October 5. Winemakers called it the most beautiful and interesting harvest of the third generation of Canalicchio di Sopra winemakers. Fermentation of Sangiovese with daily soft pumping of the must and maceration on the skins for 25 days took place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Then the wine was aged for 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 25 and 50 hl. Stunning, incredibly bright and almost ethereal, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino can be enjoyed now or kept for over 20 years. The peak of vintage maturity will be in 2025-2048.
