Wine Bindi Sergardi, “La Boncia”, Chianti DOCG, 2020

Bindi Sergardi, “La Boncia”, Chianti DOCG – an exquisite red dry wine made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the vineyard “La Boncia” in Monteriggioni, in the Chianti hills. The vineyard is located at an altitude of about 300 meters above sea level, on stony soils. The age of the vines ranges from 10 to 15 years. Harvested at the moment of optimal ripeness, the grapes are destemmed and macerated in stainless steel vats for 10 days. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature around 25C to enhance the aromatic expression and preserve the fruity and floral notes. Then decantation is carried out. Malolactic fermentation lasts until the end of winter. After that, the wine is aged in steel tanks and bottled in the spring. Depending on the vintage, the wine may partially mature in oak barrels for a short time. The potential of the wine is at least 5 years.

In 2020 , a mild winter in Tuscany has been replaced by a spring with sunny days and light showers. The hot and dry summer quickly brought the fruits to phenolic ripeness. Although the summer days were hot, the cool nights helped preserve both the acidity and the vibrant aromatic profile of the grapes. The harvest took place at the end of September in good weather. The harvest was of excellent quality.

Wine “La Boncia” is produced on the estate Tenuta I Colli , which is owned by Bindi Sergardi. Tenuta I Colli is located in the northern part of the province of Siena, in the villages of Monteriggioni and Vagliaglia. This estate represents the history and soul of the 23 generations of the Bindi Sergardi family who built it in the late 1400s. This is a very beautiful place with a rich history: in the estate of Tenuta I Colli, Bishop Achille Sergardi hosted the embassy of Emperor Charles V to negotiate a peace settlement for the city of Siena. The vineyards of this estate are famous for their special soils of sedimentary rocks, consisting mainly of calcium carbonate. Precious yellow marble is also mined on these lands. Authenticity and originality of the wines obtained in the estate emphasizes the diversity of local terroirs.
